How Direct2Care is Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy
January 12, 2024Happy International Women’s Day from Direct2Care
March 8, 2024At the beginning of every year, one third of Americans will make resolutions for themselves for the upcoming twelve months, and the younger you are, the more likely you are to set a few goals for yourself: 52% of 18- to 29-year-olds make new year’s resolutions annually. Common resolutions can range from focusing on your health more, getting organized, learning a new skill, budgeting, and living life to the fullest.
Goal setting can be easier said than done; from that third of Americans that set resolutions, only 9% complete them. The reasons as to why can vary greatly. For some people, they have set unachievable goals — for example, it is not sustainable to wake up on New Year’s Day and go on a very restricting diet (in fact, research shows that 95% of diets fail, and that dieting is the biggest indicator that someone is going to, in fact, gain weight).
For other big, sweeping resolutions, they require changing a behavior that we may have been practicing for a long time. If one of your resolutions is to get more sleep (and this is a great one, as sleep contributes greatly to our health), it may prove to be difficult to go from only getting 5-6 hours a night to 8-9. It requires shifting your sleeping schedule, which certainly is not impossible, but does require effort. It may require not going on your phone at night or eating dinner earlier. Again, these are not impossible, but they require you to become comfortable with change. If you are used to going to bed at 11:30 each night, going to bed at 9 is a big shift.
As the second month of 2024 begins, we are provided with the opportunity to look back on January and look over what we have achieved, and what we have not. 43% of Americans quit their resolutions by the end of January. Direct2Care is here to help you make sure you are not a part of that 43%.
